As their children begin raising families of their own, the need for an extension became clear. But rather than add onto the house itself, the couple chose a separate structure—an ADU.
This project is about continuity: honoring the past while making room for the next generation. The solution—a detached accessory dwelling unit—provides a dedicated living and sleeping space, complete with a loft for added flexibility.
A quiet addition with a clear purpose, the ADU reflects a thoughtful balance between family connection and personal retreat. Designed to feel separate yet rooted, it extends the life and legacy of the original home.
For us at Mavis, this project was an opportunity to explore how design can create space for growth while preserving the character of what’s already there.
